THOMAS W. DORR
(1805 - 1854) American politician and reformer known for leading the Dorr Rebellion, a short-lived armed insurrection in Rhode Island in 1841 and 1842, agitating for changes to the state's electoral system. A.E.S. at the bottom of a letter addressed to Secretary of the Navy Abel P. Upshur, Providence, Feb. 27, 1842, a recommendation for a young man to obtain a position within the navy. Dorr approves: "It gives me pleasure to unite in the above recommendation Thos. W. Dorr". Along with the original letter requesting the recommendation. Two pieces, very good.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry.
