THOMAS T. ECKERT
(1825 - 1910) Union telegraph officer assigned to the War Department who worked closely on a daily basis with Lincoln. Lincoln invited Eckert to Ford's Theater on the night of his assassination, but was detained by Stanton. Nevertheless, Eckert was at Lincoln's bedside as he approached death. A fine association piece, Eckert's copy of The Official Army Register of the Volunteer Force of the United States Army for the Years 1861, '62, '63', 64, '65 (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1865) Part I, 8vo., multiple paginations, bound in titled paper wraps. Signed by Eckert once on the top of the front wrap and again on the front flyleaf. Heavy chipping to dampstained board, binding repaired with cloth, moderate toning, else good to very good condition.
