Description:

(1779 - 1852) Irish poet, singer, and entertainer, best remembered for the lyrics of 'The Minstrel Boy' and 'The Last Rose of Summer'. He was responsible, with John Murray, for burning Lord Byron's memoirs after his death. A.Q.S., 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], November, 1842, four lines from his poem 'On Music', in full: 'Music, oh, how faint, how weak, / Language fades before thy spell! / Why should Feeling ever speak, / When thou canst breathe her soul so well?'. Very good. Mounted to the front flyleaf of his collection of poems: 'The Loves of the Angels' (London: Longman, Hurst...), 1823. 148pp. 8vo., in soiled, papered covers with paper label, in a (damaged) red leather slipcase.
