THOMAS MIFFLIN
(1744 - 1800) American Revolutionary officer, President of the Continental Congress, major general, and member of the Constitutional Convention. Important manuscript D.S. "Tho. Mifflin" 1p. 4to. with integral address leaf attached, Philadelphia, Jan. 29, 1791, a directive to the Senate and House of Representatives of Pennsylvania, in part: "...I have this day approved and signed an Act of the General Assembly, entitled 'An Act to Empower the Governor to grant a Patent to Big Tree, a Seneca Chief, for a certain [land] in the Alleghany River'...". The integral address sheet is docketed "Read in Senate Jan. 31, 1791", and the piece is in essence a land grant proposed before the Senate and subsequently approved by all. Fold splits, tear at seal from opening, but expertly matted and framed with a portrait engraving. Overall very good condition, not examined out of frame.
