member of the Continental Congress and Governor of Pennsylvania. Good content A.D.S. 1p.. legal folio, Philadelphia, Nov. 1, 1798 in which McKean orders that prisoners who had been evacuated from Philadelphia due to an epidemic be returned to their cells. In small part: "...the malignant & poisonous fever which...hath raged with extreme violence and proved mortal to some thousands of the inhabitants of the city of Philadelphia, hath greatly abated... prisoners sent from the debtors apartment in the gaol...for the preservation of their lives from the contagion...may now be removed with safety to their healths to the gaol...". A few splits carefully repaired, overall very good.
