THOMAS J. WOOD
(1823 - 1906) Union major general who fought at Chickamauga and with Sherman at Atlanta and Franklin. Two items: a war-date partly-printed D.S. 1p. 4to., Nashville, May 19, 1863, a discharge of George W. Wilder of the 58th Ill. Vols. Attached to Wilder's ‘pay stub' by staple. A small hole just above Wood's signature, otherwise very good. WITH: an A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Dayton, Nov. 15, 1888, to Gen. Henry M. Cist, in part: ‘…Herewith I send you a narrative which I think will answer your request, and meet the views of yourself and Genl. [Abraham?] Piatt, in regard to your enterprise connected with the…'Life of Genl. Thomas'…'. Boldly penned, expertly inlaid and fine. HENRY M. CIST (1836-1912) was brigadier general in the Union army and author of the famed first-person Civil War account 'The Army of the Cumberland'. ABRAHAM PIATT (1821-1908) was brevet brigadier general who saw action at Second Bull Run and was wounded in action at Fredericksburg. Expertly inlaid and very good. Two pieces.
