Description:

THOMAS J. ‘STONEWALL' JACKSON
(1824 - 1863) Confederate lieutenant general and a brilliant yet somewhat eccentric tactician, he gained his nickname from his stand at Bull Run and served as Lee's right hand in the Seven Days, in Maryland and at Chancellorsville where he was accidentally shot by Confederate pickets while riding between lines. Desirable war-date signed endorsement on a 2.75 x 1.5 in. slip of paper cut from a larger document. Signed ‘T.J. Jackson' in black ink, adding his rank ‘Lt. Genl.' below. Above the signature, another hand adds the date ‘Feby 5 1863'. The slip bearing the signature has been affixed to a larger 6.25 x 2.5 in. slip of paper bearing an ink identifying inscription, the verso of which shows a fragment of a period receipt. The signature shows some ink spotting to Jackson's rank, with some slight adhesive stains to the edges. In very good condition overall.
