THOMAS "FATS" WALLER SIGNED I.O.U
(1904 - 1943) American composer and musician who blended jazz and a comic style. His hits included "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Honeysuckle Rose". An uncommon 3 1/4" x 5 1/4" receipt, 1p., 12mo., [New York], May 31, 1936, boldly signed, "Thomas 'Fats' Waller" in pencil. The receipt, headed "I OWE YOU" in black ink, acknowledges a $100.00" advance to be paid Waller and subsequently to be debited from his first paycheck. Sold together with an 8" x 10" photograph of Waller performing at the piano. Fine.
