THOMAS DALE
(1756 - 1826) American naval officer, served in the Continental Navy under John Barry and was first lieutenant for John Paul Jones during the battle against the Serapis. Dale became one of the six original commodores of the permanent U.S. Navy, and commanded a blockade of Tripoli during the Barbary War of Jefferson's presidency. Very rare partly-printed D.S. Ri'd Dale", 1p. 10" x 5 1/2", Canton, China, Nov. 30, 1799, a bill of lading issued by Dale as master of the cargo vessel Canton, bound for Philadelphia with a cargo of tea (!) and Chinese porcelain. Folds, two or three tiny edge tears, else fine. A very rare American military autograph.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
