Description:
Thomas Crabbe 1788-1872 American rear admiral who commanded Fort Brook in Tampa during the Seminole Wars, and served as prize commissioner during the Civil War. L.S. 1p. 4to., on board U.S.S. Brandywine, Apr. 29, 1848 to a lieutenant on the same vessel. Interesting content, as it appears Crabbe has been relieved of command and must return to the United States "under peculiar circumstances". He asks the lieutenant and other officers their opinion of his behavior during his command, quoting a report that his actions were "productive of the worst consequences as regards the younger officers and general discipline". Fine.
