Description:
Theodore Winthrop 1828-1861 American poet and Union Army officer, by many accounts the first officer to be killed during the war, at Big Bethel. About thirty lines of his poetry, with corrections, apparently from two different poems with bottoms trimmed. Affixed in the margin is his rare signature Theo. Winthrop , glue stained with a small tear touching one letter, yet still bold and distinct.
