Description:

THEODORE ROOSEVELT
(1858 - 1919) Twenty-sixth President of the United States who started the Panama Canal, settled the Russo-Japanese War, broke up Standard Oil and encouraged conservation. Good content A.N.S. "T. Roosevelt" as President, 1p. on the face of a White House envelope, [n.p., Washington], n.d. to Senator Henry Cabot Lodge:, "Dear Senator Lodge, Will you speak with Mr J. V. Kimball about Philippine matters?" A very interesting association piece. Following the end of the Spanish-American War, Lodge came to lead the imperialist faction in the Senate and called for annexation of the Philippines. We know precious little about Mr. Kimball however, save for the fact that he owned a molding mill in Malden, Massachusetts that was destroyed by a fire in 1906. Light mat burn at margins, some masking tape on verso, else very good condition.
