Description:

Island, Sept. 15, 1917, a document recommending W. Taylor de Zychlinski, who served with Roosevelt in Cuba. In part: "...The bearer, W. Taylor de Zychlinski, served during the war with Spain in my regiment. He will show his discharge papers. He is very anxious to get into the war. Both by ancestry and by experience he is fit to do good work.....His great grandfather was Genl. J. P. Taylor...who was a brother of General Zachary Taylor. His grandfather was Major-General Jones of the Confederate Army, who died in Jefferson Davis' house in Richmond, from wounds received in action. General Jones' daughter, the mother of the bearer of this letter...married...in the house our minister John Jay...I believe [he] has the ability to make a good officer...". With two holograph emendations, handsomely presented with a photo of Roosevelt and one of Zychlinski. Matted in green and framed in a silver frame. Foxing and light toning, else very good, unexamined out of frame.
