Description:

THE WORLD'S FIRST COMMERCIAL AIR SHIPMENT
A piece of cloth taken from a bolt of fabric which was the world's first air freight shipment. The 3" x 3" lilac silk fabric was once pinned to a small note of provenance in a period hand (included) that reads: "This is a piece of the bolt of silk that was carried from Dayton to Columbus in the Wright aeroplane. Thought maybe Margaret or Jamie might want it". On November 7, 1019 pilot Phil Parmalee flew the world's first air-freight shipment -- a bolt of cloth -- from Dayton to Columbus, Ohio in a Wright Model B. The cloth was delivered to Morehouse-Martens Department Store, where it was cut up into swatches and sold as souvenirs. This is clearly one of those swatches. 1910 was the same year that the Wright Brothers began to manufacture airplanes. A fine relic from 100 years B.F. (Before FedEx).
