THE WAR-CRIMES TRIAL OF GENERAL TOMOYUKI YAMASHITA
(1885 - 1946) Japanese general of World War II, the ‘Tiger of Malaysia' led forces in the capture of Malaya and Singapore and did not surrender until September 2, 1945. Hanged for war crimes. A fascinating and very rare set of period photocopies of legal exhibits, affidavits and transcripts from the 1945 trial U.S.A. v. Tomoyaki Yamashita, which resulted in his being hanged on Feb. 23, 1946. Includes: ‘Exhibit 405', 12pp., a list of posts he held and copies of New York Times pages with pertinent articles; a Mar. 9, 1945 Affidavit of Maj. David Binkley, 6pp. describing atrocities committed by Japanese forces in Manila; a document marked ‘Restricted', 18pp. July 1945, the testimony of Conrado Heredia, a Filipino man assaulted by the Japanese and witness to numerous crimes; a document titled ‘Confidential', 8pp., Apr. 5, 1945, the ‘Report of Investigation of Alleged Mass Murders of Civilians…'; and many more pages of eyewitness testimonies and related material, totaling more than 70pp. This group totals nearly 100pp. in all, very good condition.
