THE WADSWORTH FAMILY An interesting and possibly historically significant grouping of twenty manuscripts and partly-printed documents signed by some of the most prominent families of Durham, Connecticut, including members of the James Wadsworth family. The pieces comprise early land transactions within the township of Durham, county of New Haven, Connecticut, from 1725-1754, which bear the endorsements by three generations of the James Wadsworth family, including: JAMES WADSWORTH (1730-1817), Revolutionary War brigadier general who endorses as an "assistant" to his father; JAMES WADSWORTH (1707-1755), who signs are town clerk of Durham, who in turn appears to have signed on behalf of his father (1680-1739). Also signed by some of the more prominent citizens who have signed, including: RICHARD BEACH, JOHN CAMP, CURTIS FAIRCHILD, TIMOTHY PARSONS, ABRAHAM BARTLET, TIMOTHY MEIGS, JOHN NOYES WADSWORTH (with reference to Thomas Hooker's estate), and JONATHAN MITCHELL. A later generation of the Wadsworth clan would go on to found the town of Geneseo, N.Y. An exceptional offering, worthy of further research. Condition varies greatly, with some examples bearing heavily toned and separated at fold, while others are very good to fine. Along with four A.L.S. by prominent politicians of the nineteenth-century, including LEWIS CASS, WASHINGTON HUNT, CURTIS LYMAN and GEORGE DALLAS, all with routine content. Fine
