THE TOMBSTONE EPITAPH
A rare edition of The Tombstone Epitaph for Friday, May 27, 1881, 4pp. lg. folio. The paper brings news of New York and London, as well as a "Homicide in Tucson" in which: "A Mexican named Francisco Granio was shot and killed...by a Chinaman. The shooting occurred in a Chinese grocery...probably accidental. The Chinaman fled immediately...A party of Mexicans are in pursuit of him and if he is overtaken he will probably be killed...". Other news includes more Tucson items including note s about the oppressive heat, an escape of a prisoner named Jesus Garcia, the plans for a railroad from Picacho to the Deer Creek coal fields, etc. The second page tells of individuals bonding themselves to mines and the shutting down of a mill as well as applications for patents, while the final page reveals a Fourth of July celebration by the Tombstone Engine Co. 1 (in which Virgil Earp was a member), a strike at the Gentle Belle mine and the usual adverts. Pages detached, light toning and wear to margins and two tape repairs at margin of first page, overall very good condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
