Description:

THE SURRENDER OF JAPAN...IN 1951!
Rare mimeographed State Department press release No. 616, 13pp. legal folio, Washington, July 11, 1951 and intended for release the following day, a "...draft peace treaty with Japan..." which had been circulated to the Allied still technically in a state of war against Japan, with the expectation of its final approval at a signing ceremony in San Francisco on Sep. 3, 1951. The draft treaty bears seven chapters with 27 articles, including renunciation of all claims to Sakhalin and the Kurile Islands claimed by the USSR, as well as all claims to any part of Korea. Some toning to margins of the first page, ele very good. The San Francisco Peace Treaty was officially signed by 49 nations on Sep. 8, 1951 and came into force on April 28, 1952. It served officially to end World War II, to end formally Japan's position as an imperial power and to allocate compensation to Allied civilians and former prisoners of war.
