Description:

THE STRANGE TALE OF RUSSIAN/GERMAN/ITALIAN "SPY" HEINRICH VON BERZEVICZY
Offered is an archive of perhaps 600+ pages of handwritten and typed biographical notes, summaries, journals, etc. along with wartime documents issued to Heinrich von Berzeviczy, a Hungarian of German nationality who either had the most fantastic wartime experiences of almost any individual...or created a "Walter Mitty" life for himself in order to win back the affections of his wife who had given him up for dead! Von Berzeviczy was initially imprisoned in February 1945 in the high-level interrogation unit reserved for high-profile Germans near Namur, Belgium, claiming to have been a political prisoner slated for execution for anti-Nazi activity. His story impressed his captors and Berzeviczy was selected for employment in the occupation military government but was arrested when caught using his release documents under false pretenses. Finally returning to his home, he finds his wife had given him up for dead and was living with an American officer. He chooses to reinvent himself as a Soviet agent in an effort to impress his wife, but his scheme backfires when she reports the plot to her American boyfriend...and von Bezeviczy is arrested yet again. He was sent to yet another interrogation center where he claimed to have been a member of German intelligence working in Greece and then in the English Channel Islands where he operated a radio station broadcasting propaganda to Great Britain. While there, one of his interrogators asked him to set forth his complete "war story", and the huge archive offered here is the result. Not extensively read nor collated by us, should be seen.
