Description:

"THE SONG OF LEVI"
A truly awful anti-Semitic children's book, the excessively rare Das Lied vom Levi ("The Song of Levi") by Dr. Eduard Schwechten, 1933 edition of a 1895 tract, J. Knippenberg Kunstverlag, Dusseldorf, 1933. 32pp., 51 illustrations by Siegfried Horn. A lengthy children's poem heavily illustrated with caricatures of Jews as bankers and money-hoarders, with a snake-like "Jew" eventually slain by a Norseman The final rhyme ends: "Oh Lord, give us Moses back, let him lead his followers back to the holy land, let the sea divide again, the water column strong as a wall of rocks, and when all the Jews are in the gully, oh Lord then close the lid, and all people have peace." On the last page the publisher is advertising a collection of slides suitable for an evening of pleasant entertainment. Very good.
