Description:

THE NASA SPACE MEDICINE ARCHIVES OF DR. WALTER S. KIP
An enormous grouping of handwritten notes, printed papers, journals, news letters, analyses, studies, etc. all concerning various aspects of space medicine and exposure to the effects of space, from the archives of Dr. Walter E. Kip, a bio-medical specialist and scientist employed by NASA and General Electric. The mass of papers completely fills a 16" x 10" x 13" storage box. Contents of the 1965-67 grouping are complex in nature and quite specialized, including: a study of muscle stimulation to modify the effects of long-term space flight; extensive studies on weightlessness; proposals for "Biosatellite I"; a large binder of printed and handwritten notes concerning "Apollo Extended Service", a 1965 set of proposed medical experiments related to long-term space flight; proposals and specifications for the creation of a "bio-isolator suit system" along the lines of the positive-pressure suit seen in the film "The Andromeda Strain", and a vast amount more of technical informations, specifications, studies, etc. in a wide range of subjects concerning the effects of space on human physiology. Important archive for those interested in this topic as America entered the "space race" to the moon.
