Description:

THE HUNTING LICENSE OF ANGELA HITLER'S HUSBAND, MARTIN HAMMITZSCH
(1878-1945) Prominent German architect, the husband of Hitler's half-sister Angela Hitler whom she married in 1936. Adolf Hitler apparently disapproved of the marriage, and referred to his half-sister as ‘Frau Hammitzsch'. Nevertheless, Hammitzsch joined the Wehrmacht, leaving in 1943 to take a position with the government in Saxony. The cause of Hammitzsch's suicide is not clear: Angela had been moved from fire-bombed Dresden in 1945 by Hitler, according to most sources, which may have provoked Hammitzsch's depression. His body was found on May 12, 1945 in the state forest district of Oberwiesenthal near the Czechoslovak border. In 1948 his entire assets were confiscated posthumously and transferred to public ownership. Here we offer an incredible rarity, namely Hammitzsch's original signed hunting license issued in Dresden, March 8, 1941 The license is in booklet form that measures 5.5 x 4 in. and comprises four pages within cardstock boards. The cover bears an image of Hammitzch, boldly signed beneath. The license allows Hamlisch hunting rights from 1943 to April 1, 1945 – just six weeks before his death. Central vertical fold from carrying in a pocket, and generally in very good condition. From the estate of Angela Hitler.
