Description:

THE HINDENBURG DISASTER AS REPORTED IN THE NEWBURYPORT DAILY NEWS
A complete copy of the Friday, May 7, 1937 edition of the Newburyport Daily News, totaling 12pp., with the headline reading: "31 KNOWN DEAD IN HINDENBURG BLAST". The subsequent article is titled "Six Other Bodies Believed Beneath Ruins of Ill-Fated German Airship", and reads, in part: "...A triple investigation into the mysterious fire and blast which destroyed the giant German dirigible Hindenburg, casing a toll of at least 31...was launched here today...through Dr. Hans Luther, retiring ambassador and the American Zeppelin Transport company...Two possible causes for the explosion...were advanced...1. That there was a static spark caused the blasts. There were storm conditions in the vicinity of Lakehurst at the time the Hindenburg was nosing toward her mooring mast...2. That the ship reverse engines to come in for a landing and as she throttled down sparks flew out...". Much more. Despite the logical arguments advanced in this article, the cause of the Hindenburg's demise was never discovered. Light toning to edges, otherwise in very good condition.
