THE DEATH OF GEN. WILHELM WEGENER
WILHELM WEGENER (1895 – 1944) German general of infantry, commanded Infanterie-Regiment 94 and the L. Armeekorps, recipient of the Knight''s Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Killed in action by a Red Army air attack aircraft on 24 September 1944. Good grouping of war-date documents concerning the general and his funeral, includes: D.S. by Wegener, 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Sep. 1, 1944, an award of the War Merit Cross with Swords to Obergefreiten Paul Reichardt and three other award documents to the same soldier signed by lesser officers; Wegener''s funeral oration as delivered by Wehrmacht Senior Pastor CZEKAY, 4pp. 4to., Riga, Sep. 26, 1944, typed on the verso of unused military forms; a handwritten letter to Wegener''s widow by Major OTTO VON DOLLWITZ, 2pp. 4to., Oct. 1, 1944, not translated; a copy of Wegener''s obituary; and a contemporary 5" x 7" photo of Wegener''s body lying in state. Overall very good condition.
