(The Custer Massacre) A rare and important account of the death of George A. Custer and the destruction of his command at the hands of Sioux warriors as reported in the New York Herald, 3pp. July 8, 1876 The third page bears an incredible, highly-detailed account of the campaign against the Sioux, with a description of the battle site and accounts of the action from Gibbons, Reno and Terry. All the events leading up to the attack are examined, with two different perspectives of the massacre and lists of the dead included. There is also a half-page topographical map of the Yellowstone region showing the routes taken by the various commands, battle sites, and the site of Custer's defeat. An exceptionally detailed account! One marginal chip and small puncture in text neither of which cause any loss of text.
