THE CONFEDERATE GOVERNMENT SEIZES IRON
War-date A.L.S. "Norman W. Smith Maj & Chf Inspr" 1p. 4to. on "Office Chief Inspector of field Transportation, 2d D't" Augusta, Dec. 5, 1863, to Capt. H. T. Massengale, at Atlanta, writing, in part "...Instructions have been sent me, making it necessary for me to stop paying more than the Schedule price for Iron. Let me know what the sizes of Iron you require & I will try & furnish it at once. I cannot well give you an order of impressments as you are not under my authority, but if I cannot send an Officer up there to do it, as soon as you advise me of Genl Cobb's return I will sanction your getting an order of impressments from him to seize the iron at the schedule price... Of the iron [that] is seized, take no wide plow in as it is necessary for the Planters, Say nothing ab[ou]t the seizure..." Usual folds, a few minor pinholes, else very good condition.

Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
