894. THE CHRISTIAN COMMISSION VISITS CAMP War-date Christian Commissioner's, 4pp. 8vo., letter written in ink by James Hall, Camp Barry, Washington, Jan. 30, 1865 to his daughter concerning traveling to visit Camp Barry, Washington in 1865. In part: "...I am stationed in charge at C. [amp] B. [arry]...A Baptist Minister from N. Y. was in charge of this station, when I came his term expired. A few days after then came a Methodist from Connecticut...who I expected would stop sometime but the Commission being short of delegates he left today going to Alexandria. Tomorrow...the agent send[s] word for me to take charge and he would send a Minister to preach on Sabbaths...we have held meetings every evening since I came. There is quite a No. of professors in camp who are anxious to sustain the cause...I have just returned from pr[ayer] meeting...we are soon to be deprived of most of our active men, who belong to Batteries that will leave soon....a great battle [is] calculated on sooner or later, which if successful...will...seal the fall of the rebellion...." Hall's phonetic spelling has been corrected. Minor spotting, else very good. $75-100
