Description:

Interesting printed broadside, 15 1/4" x 5 1/2", an extract from the New York Times dated Aug. 21 [likely 1871] and entitled "The Baltimore Bank Robbery". The extract describes two enterprising burglars renting an office in a building adjoining the Third National Bank of Baltimore, and proceeding, over the course of several months, to remove bricks from the walls and drill through the iron sheathing surrounding the vault, hiding the resulting debris in a vault in their own office. The losses to the bank are valued at $70,000, and no mention is made of there being any leads or suspects in the case. The article goes on to describe the tools used by the burglars and their methods in very high detail, and features accounts from the night watchman on duty, and of the landlord who rented the office to the burglars. Shows folds with minor splits, possibly trimmed slightly at the edges, else very good.
