Description:

THE ARCHIVE OF NAZI SCIENTIST DR. CARL AUGUST TRAENKLE
DR. ING. CARL AUGUST TRAENKLE German scientist who, during World War II, worked as an engineer at Luftfahrtforschungsanstalt (Aeronautical Research Institute, LFA, also known as the Hermann Göring Research Institute), a secret German facility for airframe, airplane engine, and aircraft weapons testing. The facility was Germany's most advanced and extensive aviation research establishment. After WWII, in 1949 Dr. Traenkle, whose specialty was optics, came to the United States to settle in Dayton, Ohio, home of Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright Field, where Traenkle and other German scientists undertook research for the U.S. Air Force. Traenkle moved back to Germany in 1963 where he established the Institute for Air and Space Travel at the Technical University of Munich. According to a declassified FBI file, during World War II, Traenkle worked for German Foreign Counterintelligence. Offered here is an enormous archive of material, essentially none researched, the vast majority from Traenkle with some from family members and spanning his entire lifetime. There are perhaps 400-600 items included in the grouping, some of which are his German and American passports, various degrees, much World War II correspondence, both personal and professional, earned and honorary degrees, a photo album and diary of his year in England (1929), design and scientific notes, dozens of pieces of personal correspondence, resumes (some with his fingerprints), and perhaps most importantly, 18 handwritten, very lengthy diaries compiled by Traenkle from his early youth until his last years in the U.S. at Wright Patterson. None of this voluminous archive has been translated, but a bit of diligent study might bring some interesting facts to light. //photos.app.goo.gl/aBCzpUmouoSfUrxd9 The following is the list of our twenty-two auctions. 1.
