(TEXAS) STEPHEN W. BLOUNT AND ALMANZON HUSTON
STEPHEN W. BLOUNT (1808-1890) Texas patriot, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence as one of three delegates representing San Augustine County at the Convention of 1836. He also served as a Confederate agent during the Civil War. D.S. signed twice as court clerk, 2pp. legal folio, San Augustin, Mar. 1, 1836, on verso the verso of an indenture covering the sale of two lots of land in Attoyac, Tx. In the first instance, Blount attests that ALMANZON HUSTON (1799-1861) appeared before him to signed the indenture, and in the second instance, Blount records the sale. The recto is is signed by Huston on behalf of himself and his business partner, fellow Texas patriot JOHN VEATCH (1808-1870), as 'John A. Veatch & A. Houston & Co.' Together the pair developed Attoyac, now largely abandoned. Some fold splits and toning.
