(TEXAS) GEORGE T. WOOD
GEORGE T. WOOD (1795 – 1858) American military officer and politician who served as the 2nd Governor of Texas. He represented Liberty County during the convention which wrote the state constitution and was elected to the Texas Senate following Texas' admission to the United States. When the Mexican–American War began, he resigned his senate seat and became Colonel of the 2nd Regiment Texas Mounted Volunteers. Partly-printed D.S. as Governor, 1p. sm. folio parchment, Austin, Feb. 16, 1848, a grant of 'one fourth of a League' of land, nicely signed at bottom, co-signed by Thomas William 'Peg Leg' Ward as the commissioner of the General Land Office. Text slightly faded but entirely legible, folds, else very good.
