Description:

TEX RANKIN
(1896 - 1947) Pioneer American aerobatic champion, a fearless pilot killed in a routine business flight. Rare bold signature on a small card, penned just beneath that of fellow aerobatic pilot DOROTHY HESTER (d. 1991), the first woman to perform an outside loop and, later, take the Navy's "G-test". Mounted, fine condition. A great association, signed at the 1931 Omaha Air Races, where both Rankin and Dorothy Hester were performing. Following a crash before the stands, Rankin immediately took to the air to calm the crowd. From the collection of Audrey Ovington, daughter of aviation pioneer Earle Ovington.
