Description:

(1895-1985) United States Lieutenant General and combat commander whose career spanned from World War I to the post-Korean War era. He most notably commanded Task Force HERREN - an incomplete division - through combat missions with the Seventh United States Army in northeast France, mostly in the Alsace-Lorraine region. Task Force HERREN fought in numerous engagements in Operation Nordwind and along the Rhine until remaining units of 70th Division arrived. During the Korean War, Herren was deputy commanding general for Eighth United States Army, then served as commanding general of the Korean Communications Zone, overseeing the handling of prisoners of war and received the repatriated U.S. prisoners of war and facilitated their return to the United States. His war-date tropical worsted uniform, pattern dated March 3, 1945, bearing his impressive fourteen service ribbons and his original triple, sterling silver lieutenant general's stars on each epaulette. His left shoulder bears a First Army insignia patch, while his lower-left sleeve bears two 'V' patches. His right shoulder bears a 70th Infantry Division insignia patch, while his lower-right sleeve bears four 'Hershey Bars'. Above his right breast is a black plastic name tag with the impressed lettering 'HERREN'. Regrettably unnamed within, though our consigner acquired this uniform from the directly from the estate auction of Herren's descendants. Fine condition overall. Sold with an original khaki tie, also acquired from the estate sale, as well as thirteen pages of biographical information. To complete the uniform, our consigner has added an Officer's shirt and khaki-color trousers. From a major private collection on public display.
