548. ROGER B. TANEY (1777 - 1864) Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and a deciding factor in the Dred Scott decision; he also battled Lincoln over the suspension of habeas corpus. Lot of three items, includes a lengthy A.D.S. 1p. legal folio, Frederick Co., Md., Feb. 2, 1805, a writ signed as attorney for the plaintiff, with a second signed endorsement on verso, sold with two signatures removed from documents, one with a repaired split traversing the signature. Three pieces with four signatures in all. $200 - 300
