Description:

Great-content T.L.S., 1p. sm. folio, Watsonville, CA, May 2, 1982, a letter from MITSUO TOMOSAWA, a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, setting forth the circumstances behind his family's fortunate survival and his emotions after the attack. In small part: '...For a couple weeks after the bomb exploded, my thoughts were filled with fear...on the day the atomic bomb was dropped most of us who were alive were in shock, so much so that I didn't have any sense of fear, anger, or other thoughts. After the initial shock wore off, I experienced a profound sense of loss and sadness that so many people were killed...I do not hold any animosity...I feel no one knew the devastating destructive power the bomb had and the human suffering that were to follow...I only hope that our world leaders will learn from this past mistake, eliminate the nuclear weapons, and learn to consider all people of this world as brothers and sisters. If all of us on this earth will love one another...the people of Hiroshima who died will not have died in vain.' Tomozawa signs at the conclusion in black ink. Original mailing folds, else fine. With transmittal envelope, bearing the printed label reading 'Hotel Hiroshima Grand...Hiroshima Japan' at the top left.
