JAMES E. B. STUART (1833 - 1864) Confederate major general of cavalry who circled McClellan's army twice, was late to the battle of Gettysburg, and in 1864 was mortally wounded at Yellow Tavern. Rare war date signature with rank: "J. E. B. Stuart Major gener. C.S.A. " Cut from a document. Mounted to the bottom of a carte de visite photograph picturing Stuart in Confederate uniform, his hat in hand. Backstamp by Anthony, New York. A light glue stain, else very good. $3,000-4,000
