Description:

Inert World War II-era German anti-tank projectile, approx. 28 1/2" x 6", a "Stielgranate ('stick grenade') 41", as used with the 37mm Pak 36 antitank gun. The essential functions as an enlarged rifle grenade; the stalk at the base was inserted into the muzzle of the gun, with the perforated jacket partially covering the barrel. A special blank cartridge propelled the projectile out of the gun, with sheet metal fins providing stabilization. Fuses were fitted at the nose and at the base, and it was capable of penetrating armor up to 180mm thick. This greatly increased the utility of the Pak 36, which was unable to penetrate all but the lightest armor utilized by Allied tanks. This example is marked at the base of the stem with a minute "Waffenamt" stamp and the manufacturer's code "fsv 6", while the aluminum fuse at the nose is also stamped with a "Waffenamt" mark, the code "eef", and additional numerals. Two stabilizing fins are warped, with oxidation, scratches, dings and flaking to the paint overall, else very good.
