ALFRED STIEGLITZ (1864-1946) American photographer who was instrumental over his fifty-year career in making photography an acceptable art form alongside painting and sculpture. Also known for his marriage to painter Georgia O'Keeffe. Scarce fine content A.L.S "Alfred ", 2pp. 4to., Lake George, Aug. 10, 1931 to his close friend and Berlin University classmate, Frank Herrmann. Stieglitz writes from his summer cottage, with good family-related content and mention of wife Georgia O'Keefe, in part: "...I have no idea when you left N.Y.. Twice I called you up - & you weren't in - I had hoped to hear from...I was laid up for a week with sinus. Got up here June 16. Wrote few letters - very few - read no books or magazines - hardly look at a newspaper - Summer quiet enough - growing poorer every day. Have printed a little. New York negatives. Georgia returned 3 weeks ago. Looks fine. Is Happy. Worked hard. Has some good things to show. You are undoubtedly as productive as ever...I remember many of the pictures. I hope the news from Eva is good. From the other children too...The Engelhards are here...Sel is in Glen Falls. The Hill is very peaceful... " Boldly penned and in fine condition. Beautifully framed on a double-glass swivel so that both sides of the letter may be viewed, lengthy descriptive and biographical plaques and an image of Stieglitz and one of his photos, a Gallery of History presentation with the holograph envelope visible through a glass panel on verso. $700-900
