Description:

Rare, World War I-date and configuration, all-matching example of an Austro-Hungarian M1895 "Karabiner mit Stutzenring" ("Carbine with Bayonet Lug"), 18.75 in. barrel, 39.25 in. overall, in its original chambering of 8x50mmR. The top of the receiver ring is marked with the name of the national arsenal at Steyr, with the model number "M.95". The top of the barrel is marked "W-2", with a minute Austro-Hungarian eagle and the date "[19]17". The left-hand sides of the barrel, the receiver and the butt are all marked with the serial number "5545F". No import marks are present. The rear of the barrel, receiver, bolt, and magazine show notable pitting with no active oxidation, while the stock shows numerous handling marks overall, but has not been refinished. The stock has shrunk slightly and the barrel bands are slightly loose, and the top hand guard shows a small crack beneath the front band. The action operates as originally built. The bore is dark and shows minor pitting, but the rifling remains strong and the crown is well-defined. NRA grade very good to fine. The majority of these carbines were re-chambered to 8x56mmR following the defeat of Austria-Hungary in World War I. Many were transferred to Romania, where their components were refinished and force-matched. All firearms purchases must be completed through a Federal Firearms License holder, and the purchaser is responsible for all associated fees. No shipping outside of the United States.
