STEVENSON (1817-1888) Confederate major general who led with distinction at Cumberland Gap, later captured at Vicksburg, exchanged, and again led his forces from Missionary Ridge to Bentonville. Early A.D.S. with rank in the third person, 1p. oblong 8vo., Camp Jefferson Davis, Miss., Sept. 30, 1848, concerning his serving as a Judge Advocate for a Court Martial. In part: "I hereby certify that Capt. C.L. Stevenson 5' Inf. was necessary employed as Judge Advocate of the Genl. Court Martial convened at this camp per 5' Mil. Department Order No. 3 dated September 24, 1848..." The document is signed at bottom by D. J. Miles of the South Carolina Militia. Some toning, with crisp signatures, very good. $300-400
