Description:

STERLING COMPACT PRESENTED TO AN FDR AND TRUMAN STAFF MEMBER
A charming relic from the Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman White House years, an original sterling silver powder compact inscribed to a long-time member of the staff and presented to her, possibly upon her retirement. The compact is rectangular, 3 x 2.25 in., with elegant scrolling on the lid and a hand-engraved message: ‘To Jessie from White House Co-Workers 1941-1951'. It closes by way of a push-clasp on the side. Inside, it contains the original powder puff as well as traces of the original powder itself. The mirror within bears cracking and crazing, but is nonetheless intact. Accompanied by the original mint-green velvet sleeve and the original box with the logo of the silver manufacturer Felmore imprinted in silver ink on the cover. Very good condition, and a lovely relic.
