Description:

Sterling A. M. Wood 1823-1891) Confederate brigadier general who served under Johnson at Shiloh, and with Cleburne at Murfreesboro and Chickamauga, badly wounded at Perryville. Fine content A.D.S. 2pp. 4to., [n.d., but clearly during the war] [n.p.], in which Wood defends himself against a charge of misappropriation of funds. In part: I deposit all of that fund in my hands, after making the purchases for the company in Mobile... The fund was never intended for pocket money... we still need molasses, vegetable and necessaries I say to all discontented spirits, - - I have done my duty and shall continue to discharge it. They will be better satisfied when they discharge theirs, and me and all may not be satisfied that no distribution will ever take place no matter how much complaint is made or who's offended. Signed with rank as Colonel. Very good. E15000-2500
