Description:

Steppenwolf/Mars Bonfire Handwritten "Born To Be Wild" Lyrics
Peaking at #2 on the Billboard singles chart in August 1968, "Born To Be Wild" became the archetypal biker anthem when it was used in the film "Easy Rider" a year later. Both the music and lyrics were penned by Dennis Edmonton (aka Mars Bonfire), an original member of The Sparrows; the early line-up of what would evolve into Steppenwolf. Bonfire left the group just as fame was on the horizon, but the reference to "heavy metal thunder" is cited as the first usage of the term "heavy metal." Bonfire has written the lyrics to his rock classic blue felt tip pen on an unlined 8.5" x 11" sheet, to which he has also added the song's title and his signature. . Framed to 26" x 19.5" with a "Born To Be Wild" 45rpm and sheet music. Embossed plate stating the lyrics were donated to the City of Hope 2008 charity auction.
