789. ALEXANDER H. STEPHENS Scarce signed book Biographical Sketch of Linton Stephens by James D. Waddell, (Atlanta: Dodson & Scott, 1877), a biography of the late Georgia Supreme Court justice and a direct relative of Alexander Stephens, inscribed on the front flyleaf: "To James Winfield Stone with the kindest regards and best wishes of Alexander H. Stephens [?] Crawfordville Ga. 5 Sept. 1880". A few stray pencil marks throughout, covers and spine ends worn a bit, corners rubbed and worn, else very good. Stone, to whom Stephens dedicated this volume, was the son of Confederate Lt. Col. Welcome Allen Stone, killed at Chickamauga. Stephens took a direct interest in the care of the younger Stone after his father's death. $200-300
