Description:

681. ALEXANDER H. STEPHENS A.L.S. "Alexander Stephens", 1p. 8vo., Washington, D.C., 1874, to a Frank Terney, a young man in Charleston who is requesting his autograph. In part: "I know of no sentiment short and more appropriate, for a boy who's to be the architect of his future than the couplet of Pope..." Unfortunately, Stephens scrawl renders the couplet illegible. Writing is dark with browned paper. Good. $150-200
