(1764 - 1839) Lieutenant Governor of New York as well as a statesman, soldier, and land-owner, the heir to one of the largest estates in the New York region at the time, which made him the tenth richest American of all time. Good content A.L.S. apparently concerning the Constitution and Rennssalaer Polytechnic University, founded by him two years earlier, 2pp. 4to. with integral franked address leaf, Washington, Jan. 21, 1826. In part: "...I flatter myself that it will be a foundation on which the Regents will build up the School & in time allay the animosities subsisting in N. York. The election of Mr. Sandford is satisfactory to me...The next subject of importance is the amendments to the Constitution..." Seal tear, else very good.
