STANISLAW KARUBIN
(1915-1941) Polish World War II ace with seven confirmed 'kills', killed in action after the Battle of Britain. Typed D.S. signed in pencil with initials 'SK', 1p. legal folio, Sept. 5, 1940, a Battle of Britain combat report for his activities as part of Squadron 303, in part: '...I was red 2. Sdn sent to intercept a formation of e/a over Thameshaven. Formation noted of about 35 JU 88 bombers and escort of 109. I took on the fighter escort and yellow and blue section...I chased a Bf 109 giving it several short deflection shots before getting into the position to give it a longer burst...I saw my de wilde ammunition hit the 109 it burst into flames with pieces falling...I then saw another 109 diving at high speed on S/L Kellets hurrican [sic] so I got on the tail and fired the remaining ammunition into it...The e/a rolled on its back with its cockpit a pass of flames...'. Karubin joined 303 Squadron at Northolt upon its formation in August 1940 and almost immediately claimed a Me109 with two more 'kills' following on September 5, as noted in this document. On September 6, he destroyed an He111 but was himself shot down by return fire and injured. He rejoined the 303 and, on September 30, destroyed a Me109 on the 30th and another on October 5. Karubin was killed in action in 1941 when he crashed when breaking through cloud to land. Fine condition.
