ST. RADEGONDE EXPELS A DEMON
Engraving "St. Radegonde" from the Bartsch 1799 edition of the engravings of Leonard Beck (1480-1542) entitled "Images de Saints et Saintes," originally executed for Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519). The 11 1/2" x 16 1/4" engraving depicts St. Radegonde casting a demon from the body of a woman as a man lies at her feet. Radegonde, wife of King Chlotar I (son of Clovis), founded a nunnery which she joined and is said to have performed numerous miracles before her death on August 13, 1587. Disbound, fine condition.
