Description:

SS-Totenkopf-Wachbataillon Sachsenhausen Wehrpass, issued to SS Gefreiter Edmund Piwinski in Oranienburg on Nov. 11, 1943. Piwiniski was born in Berlin in 1893, an older man which is typical of those selected to serve as guards at concentration camps. In several places within the wehrpass, Piwinski's service at Sachsenhausen is indicated in both handwritten and ink-stamped entries. Also present is his official photo riveted in place on page two in its typical place on page 2, as well as a second copy within the front pocket of the cover, previously used on some other document as evidenced by the old staple holes. His service was brief - only from Dec. 7 to Dec. 21, 1944, very late in the war. He very likely was sent there to aide in the final liquidation of the camps inmates, which was ordered by Himmler at the end of 1944. Sick inmates were executed in the industrial yard, including at least 2,000, or transferred to death camps.
