Description:

A fine example of a Waffen-SS general's visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool with a black velvet band and showing a subtle "saddle" shape. An SS-style shell metal national eagle insignia is affixed at the peak, with a "totenkopf" insignia at the center of the band below. The crown and band are edged with aluminum bullion piping, as worn by SS officials holding the rank of Oberführer through Reichsführer-SS, and an aluminum bullion chinstrap is affixed over the vulcanized fiber bill by means of a pebbled metal button on each side. The interior is fitted with a light-brown faux-leather sweatband and lined with ribbed gold silk, with a diamond-shaped celluloid sweat shield at center printed with the designation "Stirndruckfrei Deutsches Reichspatent" (lit. "Forehead Pressure-Free German Reichspatent"). The faint black size stamp "58" is visible on the inside of the sweatband at the rear, but the cap is otherwise unmarked. The sweat shield shows minor separations from the lining, the sweatband shows slight wear and soiling, the eagle insignia shows wear to its finish and the "totenkopf" shows a dark patina and some slight verdigris, else very good.
